• Question: Apparently the Universe eventually loops back on it\'s self. So what do oyu think is all around it? More univeres? Paralell dimentions? A huge black hole? I\'m not sure anyone KNOWS but what is your (creative if you wish lol) oppinion? And are there aliens and UFOs? I think there is a chance :) From Joanna xxxxx

Sorry Joanna, I don’t know very much about astronomy so I can’t answer your question.

My ‘creative’ answer is that I don’t see why there couldn’t be other universes or even other things that we couldn’t possibly imagine.

      Hi Joanna,
The idea that the universe loops back on itself is one that stems from Einstein’s theories, and it might well be right (although it certainly hasn’t been proven). However, in the theory, there isn’t anything ‘surrounding’ the universe. The universe is completely self contained.

Imagine you are standing on the earth. You can go fowards/backwards and sideways. The earth looks flat, but it is slightly curved, so no matter which way you go, if you travel long enough, you will end up where you started. Now, space can also be curved. It could be that you can go in forwards/backward, sideways, or up/down and also get back to where you started. In this sense, the universe has the same properties as the earth, only that there are three ways you can go, not two. However, accoring to Einstein’s equations, the universe doesn’t have to be embedded inside a bigger universe. It can be completely self-contained, with no edges at all!

I give my opinion on UFOs and aliens here: /cancerj10-zone/2010/06/do-any-of-you-believe-that-ufos-exist

I’m afraid I can’t even begin to comment about the Universe looping back on itself, I have no clue about that sort of thing!

As for aliens, I certainly wouldn’t rule their existence out – there’s an awful lot out there that we haven’t explored and know nothing about.
