Optimistic estimates of so-called ‘peak oil’, which is the time when the rate of petroleum production starts to decline, put it around 2020. For other forms of fossil fuels:
Coal: 417 years
Natural gas: 167 years
But these are just estimates, and projections based on current trends. However, it is a race to find other ways of fueling our planet, because we know that these reserves will one day run out.
