      No. I work in a research institute, although if I was in a university I might be.

      Hey.
      I’m supervising a student who is doing a project for their masters degree at the moment, and I have taught some classes for masters students and undergraduate university students too. I really enjoy teaching, although it can be quite scary!

      No – but I would like to. That’s why I volunteer with STEMNET to do schools talks reasonably regularly about my work and the science behind it. In the future I’d like to do some lecturing.

      I have had always had students in the lab to train, in total 7 and all women (I don’t know why!) At first it was a bit scary because I didn’t have a lot of experience myself and I was worried to teach the wrong things, but with time I have gained confidence and I really enjoy having students. It’s very time consuming when they start, because I have to follow them step by step and explain everything, but after few weeks they become independent and they actually help me a lot with my work.

      I work in a research institute rather than a university, so I don’t really get the chance to teach university students (though I have just applied to give some lectures at one of the universities in London – it’s something I’d really like to do). But whenever new PhD students or other scientists come to the lab, I teach them how to work with flies.
