  I have never worked in a hospital and I’m not sure that, as a scientist, I would like to work in a hospital. If I wanted to work in a hospital, I think it would be better to go back and study medicine or become a nurse

  I am employed by the Institute of Cancer Research, which is attached to the Royal Marsden hospital. So, even though I’m not employed by a hospital, my office is in the hospital! This alliance makes testing out new methods of diagnosis and treatment much easier, particularly because the Royal Marsden is a specialist cancer hospital.

  Yes, I have worked in a hospital, but only as a medical secretary and personal assistant. I’ve never done any research in a hospital. I wouldn’t mind working in a hospital in the future, but it’s not something I’m aiming for at the moment.

  I never have professionally, and I don’t see any reason why I should. Scientists in other areas might find some use working in a hospital, and there are a number of hospitals with strong ties to research, but my own field wouldn’t really benefit from it. The space that my office would take up would be better spent on beds for patients.
  
  When I was younger, though, I did some temp work as a medical secretary on a ward for very old people.
