Hi Emilie. It was great to talk to you in the chat. Sorry that you are so worried about getting cancer.

The best thing that you can do to reduce your risk of cancer is not to smoke. I hope that you don’t.

The other things that are a good idea are to eat a healthy balanced diet, take plenty of exercise and try not to get obese in the future. Keeping covered up and wearing sunscreen when in the sun can help reduce your risk of cancer and avoiding sunbeds is a good idea too!

Having the HPV vaccine when you are offered it can reduce your risk of cervical cancer, and when you get older, going for cancer screening (cervical, breast and bowel) can help to prevent cancer or to catch it early while it is easier to treat.

I hope that these answers have helped, but ask more questions if you are still worried!
      Jo.

You can reduce the chances of you getting cancer by avoiding smoking, eating a healthy diet, getting regular excersize and limiting your exposure to radiation from the sun. I don’t blame you for not wanting it – I don’t either!

These are thing things you should do to minimise your risk of getting cancer:
      – always wear high factor suncream when you’re out in the sun: don’t get sunburned.
      – don’t start smoking.
      – eat healthily: plenty of fresh fruit and veg, not too much fatty food.
      – get plenty of exercise, don’t be overweight.

Try not to worry too much about getting cancer though… it’s very rare in young people, and if you do the things I’ve mentioned above, your risk of developing it when you get older will be fairly low.

Well, there is nothing you can do to guarentee that you won’t get it, but you certainly can minimise the chance of getting it.

The biggest thing you can do is not smoke. Smoking is the biggest single cause of cancer. You can also reduce your risk of cancer if you eat healthily. This involves eating plenty of fruit, vegetables and fibre, and not having too much salt, sugar and fat. Finally, keep out of the sun and if you are going to the beach or somewhere you will spend a lot time exposed to the sun, make sure you cover any exposed skin with plent of high SPF sun cream.
