It depends how far back you want to go? Life started about half a billion years ago, single cell organisms arose shortly after that. Then, multicellular life evolved, things similar to algae and sponges. Some of them evolved into fish, then a branch of fish came to land and became the first amphibians. Some amphibians became, reptiles and some reptiles became mammals. Some of the mammals then evolved into primates a group of primates evolved into the great apes.
We evolved from great apes in the Africa, where Ethiopia is today. We underwent a number of changes. As we left the forest and started living in the savannah, we lost our hair and started sweating, in order to cool down. We still kept some hair on our heads though, to protect us from the sun. Then, for a number of reasons, our brains started to grow and we became more intelligent. We started to spread around the world and colonise almost all corners of the world, which is, just about, where we are now.
By the process of natural selection! Human evolution is an extremely interesting subject which people are researching every day. Have a look at these links:
Humans, apes and monkeys all evolved from a common ancestor many years ago. Exactly how humans evolved, I don’t know. But one of the key points in human evolution was the evolution of such a big brain… that’s what makes us so much more intelligent than apes and monkeys. But with the evolution of a big brain came problems: big brain means big head, which makes giving birth much harder! So humans evolved to be born before they are very well developed, before the head gets too big to come out of the mother’s womb! That’s why human babies are so useless compared to animal babies!
