0 Question: If a person has asthma, what is better, carpet or wooden flooring? Asked by sulekha007 to Gioia, Iain, Jo, Leo, Mariam on 23 Jun 2010 in Categories: General.
Joanna Watson answered on 22 Jun 2010:
That depends on what the triggers are that set off a particular person’s asthma. If people are allergic to house-dust mites then wooden flooring is better than carpet.

Hi Sulekha007, I think we talked about this in today’s live chat!
I would have thought that wooden flooring would be better, because it’s easier to keep clean: carpets trap dust, which can be bad for asthmatics.
Iain Moal answered on 22 Jun 2010:
I don’t know, but as a guess, I’d say wooden flooring, because it wouldn’t habour as much dust.
Leo Garcia answered on 22 Jun 2010:
I would assume that wooden flooring is better, because it can be cleaned more easily, removing the dust to which the person might be allergic.
Gioia Cherubini answered on 23 Jun 2010:
I would think that wooden floor is better than carpet, because easier to clean and gives less chance of allergenic stuff trapped in it
