To be honest, I’m not sure what I would have been.

I really like music, and for a while after I left university I thought that it would be great to be in A&R for a record label so that I could go to lots of gigs and listen to demos all day – and then get to decide which bands would get a record contract.

I worked for a marketing agency for a little while, and I thought it would be good fun to work in advertising. I also like animals a lot (especially horses), so I might have ended up being a riding instructor or something like that.

I’m glad that I’ve become a scientist though!!! It’s great to go to work every day knowing that you might find out something that will help other people.

For a while I was thinking about being a medical doctor, and I vaguely considered being a lawyer too.

I thought about going into music production – but I am very pleased that I am a scientist. I like doing science talks on the side, too, because I think it’s very important.

I would have loved to be a musician. I was in a heavy metal band when I was younger and I loved it. Failing that, I would be a chef. I really like cooking good food, and I really enjoy cooking for friends and family.
