      In 2007, around 7.6 million people died of cancer worldwide. In the UK, in the same year, nearly 300,000 people were diagnosed with cancer. You can see why we need scientists in cancer research!

      From the Cancer Research UK website: “There are around 298,000* new cases of cancer diagnosed each year in the UK.” This is the average for the last 3 years.

      In 2007, 297,991 people in the UK were diagnosed with cancer.

      Around the world, it is estimated that there were around 12.7 million new cases in 2008.
