The idea that an unusual number of planes and boats go missing in the Bermuda triangle is an urban legend. When people look at the records of the number of missing planes/boats, then there is nothing unusual about it.

Sorry sportygirl16 – I don’t know anything about the Bermuda Triangle – other than that there are stories of boats and planes disappearing there.

I don’t know enough about it to really comment, but I don’t think there’s any mysterious reason ships and planes disappear there… it’s more likely due to some natural phenomenon.

I think we answered this question elsewhere. To summarise though: it is a conspiracy theory not backed up by strong scientific evidence. Most stories relating to it have been embellished, made up or misinterpreted, and the remaining true stories are no more numerous than what you would expect for any where else over the ocean.

A good way of looking at it is this: If we can explain a phenomenon without resorting to the supernatural – then why resort to the supernatural? Also, even if something ISN’T currently explained by science (although the Bermuda Triangle stories are), it is clearly heading in the wrong direction to resort to outlandish conspiracy theories and the supernatural.
