I don’t know if there is one country that has the reputation for the best scientists. I know that the UK does pretty well, especially given what a small country we are and how small the population is.
The USA has some great medical scientists and some countries like Norway and Sweden have really good epidemiologists because they have really good data to work from. I think that other countries like India and China that have a lot of good scientists too.
I would say that the US and the UK are among the countries investing the most money in research and that is a very good reason for the best scientists from all over the to come to work in these countries
That’s a tough question, and I’d imagine that different countries tend to have specialities in particular regions of science. Students from Asian countries such as China and Japan are often praised for their outstanding work ethic and abilities in science and maths. They also spend a great deal on science and technology:
However, I would recommend that choosing a place to work as a scientist should be based on the reputation and quality of the research centre you are looking at, and how nice the country is!
The circle of the best certainly varies by field, and I am not sure whether “country” is the best level to think about that, but Switzerland would certainly be a good candidate.
