I think that the thing I enjoy most about my work is the point when I realise that I have found out something that can be published in a scientific journal. After all, your work isn’t really worth much until you have had it reviewed by experts in your field (in a process called ‘peer review’) and let the world see your methods and results!

Conferences can also be very enjoyable, because you can get to see interesting parts of the world (I’m off to San Diego in the summer!) and you can meet up with people looking at the same problem as you to talk about new ideas and maybe think up ways of collaborating on the problem.

I also enjoy the feeling of reading someone else’s work and realising something that they have missed out on, or even got a little bit wrong. That’s when your brain starts working in overload to come up with an idea for your next scientific publication…!

I really like investigating things and doing research into why things are the way they are. I’m quite a sociable person, so I like that I’m usually working as part of a team, and I really like it when I get out of the office to talk to people about my work and to hear about their work.

uhm, this is a hard questions, because there are different aspects that I like a lot. I would probably say the freedom, because nobody really tells me how to do the job, even if of course I am always open to get good advices. Another thing that is really nice of science, especially in the UK is that it’s a very international environment, where you end up working with people coming from all over the place

I love finding new things out: adding to the world’s knowledge of how things work, even if it’s just a tiny addition!

I really like discovering new things. I love the feeling when something just clicks and makes sense, especially if it was a lot of hard work.
