      Do you mean my inspiration to be an epidemiologist?

      When I was at university, a visiting lecturer came and gave us a lecture about cervical cancer. They talked about how the number of women getting cervical cancer has changed over time and how all kinds of changes in society (including things like the second world war) can affect how many people get certain diseases.

      I found that lecture *really* interesting, and although it took a little while for me to realise that I could do it as my job, I’ve loved epidemiology ever since that day.

      My inspiration to be a good scientist comes from my supervisors, who also actively teach me how to be a scientist!

      Scientific knowledge is sometimes described as ‘standing on the shoulders of giants’ – meaning we have inherited much of our science from genuises in the past. So they are also my inspiration – for helping me further scientific progress.

      What inspires me is finding out more about how the world works, and working towards finding better treatments for a horrible disease.
