• Question: would you be willing to donate all the prize money if you knew it would help people with cancer?

      The rules of the competition are that the money should be spent on communicating our work. I would be willing to donate all the prize money if I knew it would help people with cancer, but I would really like to make the lesson packs that I talk about on my profile.

      I think that if people really understood the medical stories in the news and knew which ones they should worry about and which ones they shouldn’t they would be able to make better decisions about their lifestyle that might prevent them from getting cancer.

      If I had the possibility, I would be very happy to donate the money to a charity organisation, not necessarily to fund cancer research, but one to help more the life of the people with cancer and their families, for both psichological and practical support.
      However, the rule is that we spend the money on a science communication activity. Even if you wouldn’t see the immediate benefit of helping people, I consider this as an investment, where I can try to engage more people in science, so that they can either go into science themselves or donate money to charities

      The prize money has to be spent on science communication – but, I would be happy to donate to a cancer research charity regularly, or leave money in my will, as it is such an important cause.

      Yes, of course I would. But the rules say that we should use the money for communicating science. And £500 isn’t that much when it comes to research, so I think the money will be better used trying to inspire young people to get interested in science.

      Yes, I would, but the purpose of the prize money is to do something related to science communication.
